Founded in 1995 by Michael Laufer, M.D, VNUS used its medical and engineering expertise in developing a minimally invasive alternative to vein stripping. The VNUS Closure^® procedure was first used in Europe beginning in 1998. As of April 2004, over 50,000 procedures have been performed worldwide. The VNUS Closure procedure became available in the United States in March 1999.
